Betacard is a digital contact management SaaS product that lets individual users and businesses create their own custom digital cards with interactive links. The product allows easy sharing and storing of contact information that is always updated.
In the beginning, I was brought in to work on the branding, art direction and marketing visuals, together with the website. My teammates have created the initial wireframes and gone through a few iterations of hi-fidelity prototypes with the client.
In later stages, I started to work on the Ui/Ux of the app and web screens, also worked closely with the developers. Along the way, I also supervised a few junior designers that were working on the marketing materials.
The people that knows the ins and outs of the company, keeps a company running with their organized planning while keeping tabs on companies’ employees
Entrepreneurs that are willing to adopt new technology to optimise their business operations.
They are always out and about meeting new clients and constantly giving out their name cards to potential leads.
We studied other contact management apps and also web editing products to get a better idea of what kind of features that were needed for Betacard.
When we developed the identity, we wanted to incorporate the idea of cards into the app icon and logotype. The icon is also used as a loading animation throughout the product. We also created a style guide to keep the product looking consistent.

Users are able to create their own custom cards or choose from the countless templates we’ve created to get started with.

Stored cards with interactive links allow users to easily connect with their contacts. Updated contact detail are immediately reflected and notified.
As many people are still using paper cards, we need an OCR feature for users to create virtual contact cards to store existing contacts in the app.

The product launched when the covid lockdown in our country began, we had various ideas to promote the product, but some couldn’t be executed. Below are some of the posters created that we wanted to use for college campuses.

We had a campaign to digitize physical name cards that was dropped off at co-working spaces which was successful as that created traction for new users to try out the app.

During the development, the founders pitched to various venture capitalists, startup initiatives and government bodies for funding. Below is a snapshot of some of the slides that I’ve created.

Companies are allowed to create multiple cards for different branches or even update designs periodically.

Once cards are created, teammates can be easily invited through email and removed if they change teams or leave the company.
Companies can choose to store their teammates’ contacts in order to create a directory to contact their customers.

There are so many things I wished I’d done differently in this project, I wish I had convinced the stakeholders to do user research such as user interviews before and after the app launch to see if the product will be viable in Malaysia. Due to tight deadlines caused by funding, the design and development had to take precedence over research.
We used the usual project process that I think wasn’t the best method for the product development. Rapid testing during the design process would’ve given us a better idea for product development strategy. With rapid testing, I think it would’ve save us a lot of development time.
